A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit, the conversationturned to complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups-porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite — telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate. When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, theprofessor said:“Notice that all the nice looking; expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. The cup that you’re drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the best cups…And then you began eyeing each others cups. Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, norchange the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate we have. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. And enjoy your hot chocolate!

A very simple yet so meningful story…life is a hot chocolate indeed. full of pleasure that needs a lot of careful ways to be drunk…not necessarily along with the kind of its cup but the way we put it into our stomach.. it may stain our dress and may pour in our skin.. but if we really love such hot chocolate we’ll find satisfaction in the end and be thankful to it…. (huh!!! gulo ko no???)

honestly speaking we are very judgemental. we easily concluded things as what it is ohysically not knowing their essence or contents. we are very subjective. well, just a norm, and that norm that exist since eternity seems to be part of our life as human.

well, well, well.whatta nice story sir jan.hmmmmmm,i guess the hot choc’lates really symbolizes us.right!but, we can’t avoid the fact that others first attract with the physical damn appearance of a person. Some people practiced not to know the person or the real identity of that individual they’re just focusing on his/her fucking body or whatsooooever!!!!!!

hate to know=(
but we can’t please others, hmmmm just accept the reality.that’s it.enjoy life

o0 nga nuh… siguro dahil parang mas comfortable sa pakiramdam kapag ang pipiliin mo na cup ay ung mas maganda kaya ganon. pero it still makes sense.. and still ung laman ung importante dun..parang bonus na lng ung panlabas niya..

10. keenepot - November 25, 2008

it is not the people around us who gives us the real burden..we always have choices, which may make us feel uncomfy..yet we strive for it,fortunately leading us to a better life..
we all have equal lives and we are the ones who decide on what our lives will look like..

11. fatima_bps3-2 - November 26, 2008

it is a nice story… i enjoyed reading it…. we can not deny the fact that people nowadays are aspiring for the “expensive cups”…. it is just so sad, that it is the way of life nowadays…

12. maricel bps3-2 - November 26, 2008

I really like how our life, desires and wants compared to a cup of hot chocolate. Akalain mo un hehe..pwede pla un icompared dun…Most of us will say we want a simple life but in reality this not what we really want. We are dreaming we will achieve everthing we dreamt of tulad ng magandang trabaho, bahay na mganada, luxury car at madaming pera. 

13. Rosecore - November 26, 2008

Sometimes to find one’s own happiness means to live simply.. And to dream for simple life means to risk for something that we all ever WANTED..

14. larry 3-2 - November 26, 2008

15. pravis prado - November 26, 2008

god brought us to this world to be worthy one and realize that we are unique as gthers around us, live and love all of your life in God’s hand…

16. E.M Cordero 3-2 - November 26, 2008

mga clsm8 q emo.. ahahahaha.. i tink dat the idea of this is dat we shud not be too choosy in lyf.. lets not xpect too much from sumting… parang sa nbsa qng article 2ngql sa mile high club.. sex in planes are all hype, d nmn daw enjoy… i tink this s2ry is much d same because un cups all hype lng, wla nmn tlga xang clbi..

17. LuCiLa,BpS III-2 - November 26, 2008

we really want the best for ourselves but i agree to what the lesson had implied.. we really have to enjoy our days and at the same time do our best because we cant bring the days past back again.. naintndhan nyo nmn un sir.. hehehe… godblesS!

18. karl - November 27, 2008

nice story,..in order to achieve something we must always be aware that there wud be inevitable istanes in our lives..kumbga,ituring ntin na spice o ingredient lng ang mga problema, na once ma-ihandle ntin ng maayos, mtatamo natin ang isang msarap n putahe o buhay n mariwasa..

haha..

19. joan mapanao - November 27, 2008

it’s all in the state of mind… people shouldn’t complain to the results of the things that in the first place they’ve chosen to dwell into… we have choices… and we have to stand by it… now,, it’s our fault if at the end,, we can’t see the contentment and happiness that we’re supposed to find and enjoy…

it’s how we see and define life as it is presented into us… it’s alright to strive hard… it’s best to keep everything simple… a matter of discipline and knowing our own limitations… :)

hear to hot choc’lates! *pati din sa kape! heheh… :) *

21. Rachael seso - November 27, 2008

i think its part of human nature to always desire for the best. but there will always come a time that that same discontent that brings us misery will compel us to go back to the basics and relearn how to enjoy life in its simplicity.

22. ~BinmaR™ - November 27, 2008

it is so true… some people really just take some things for granted..

24. careen_bps3-2 - November 27, 2008

sana mangyari 2 someday.. bibisitahin namin kayo with, of course and hoping so, a well established career, then syempre lagyan ntin ng twist, you might be old because of your age, but not of your thoughts, principles, and everything.. hehe,,,

physical attraction i think could not really be set aside…

25. joy - November 27, 2008

An inspirational thought, indeed. The cup may also be the one that defines your life. Concentrating to have a nice cup is not bad, for me, primarily, because the job and such will help you discover what do you want in life, want do you clamor for the better of all. Just don’t overdo it, or else it would really turn out fine.

26. miyvki - November 28, 2008

best is not always the best… sometimes it only has a minimal effect to what we really need.. sometimes what we perceived to be the best may not seemd to be one.. and we were just astonished to certain features that made some things “best” in our eyes, and while celebrating with this things, sometimes we really forget the real purpose of why we are here… the cup that we chose gives excitement to us, and what really matter is what is in it – the hot chocolate, the life itself…. its aroma that makes life more interesting. and its delicious taste that makes life exhilarating…….

this story is really worth reading…. lets not just read, lets ponder on the thought of this story……..

thanks s’jan… youre simply the best…..

27. khang - November 28, 2008

very inspiring cya..an eye opener..pero it does not apply naman to everyone na ung cup lge tnitignan nla..its the content of that cup that counts..

28. iamnobody - March 17, 2009

hindi ko alam kung mababasa mo pa “to.. i think this will be the better way but not the best way for me to say thank you.. hindi ako maktulog ngaun.. dahil di ako mapakali.. para makatulog na ko kaya ako na-comment dito.. (hindi ko alam kung comment nga ‘tong ginagawa kO)

29. Renato Jeremiah R. Apilado bsme1-2 - March 29, 2009

It is true that we, sometimes or maybe always focusing in things that maybe pleasant to our eyes but cannot improve our self…better choose the things that give us focus…it’s the content of oneself

30. jaypee mortel bsme -1-2 - March 29, 2009

31. kristine perez bsme 1-2 - March 30, 2009

it’s normal for a human to desire all the best in life. the only thing is they don’t have the word “contentment” in their vocabulary. this makes the scene more complicated. i think living life to the fullest, and as simple as possible will solve this problem. i know it’s not that simple but at least it’s possible, right?

32. gilbert ancheta(bsme 1-2) - March 30, 2009

33. Jeremy H. Ham BSME 1-2 - March 30, 2009

this story is inpired me that even an hot chocolate can define us what is our status in life…..and in our life ther many problem we nid to surpass to continue our life.
