- – - stephen covey’s seven habits of highly effective people® November 16, 2007

habit 1 – be proactive®

This is the ability to control one’s environment, rather than have it control you, as is so often the case. Self determination, choice, and the power to decide response to stimulus, conditions and circumstances

habit 2 – begin with the end in mind®

Covey calls this the habit of personal leadership – leading oneself that is, towards what you consider your aims. By developing the habit of concentrating on relevant activities you will build a platform to avoid distractions and become more productive and successful.

habit 3 – put first things first®

Covey calls this the habit of personal management. This is about organising and implementing activities in line with the aims established in habit 2. Covey says that habit 2 is the first, or mental creation; habit 3 is the second, or physical creation.

habit 4 – think win-win®

Covey calls this the habit of interpersonal leadership, necessary because achievements are largely dependent on co-operative efforts with others. He says that win-win is based on the assumption that there is plenty for everyone, and that success follows a co-operative approach more naturally than the confrontation of win-or-lose.

habit 5 – seek first to understand and then to be understood®

One of the great maxims of the modern age. This is Covey’s habit of communication, and it’s extremely powerful. Covey helps to explain this in his simple analogy ‘diagnose before you prescribe’. Simple and effective, and essential for developing and maintaining positive relationships in all aspects of life.

habit 6 – synergize®

Covey says this is the habit of creative co-operation – the principle that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which implicitly lays down the challenge to see the good and potential in the other person’s contribution.

habit 7 – sharpen the saw®

This is the habit of self renewal, says Covey, and it necessarily surrounds all the other habits, enabling and encouraging them to happen and grow. Covey interprets the self into four parts: the spiritual, mental, physical and the social/emotional, which all need feeding and developing.

3. Mark Randell Orallo 3-1 - November 22, 2007

i think, all of the seven habits are very important, like the habit #3, example, you must wear off first the pants before the underwear, go on first at the top before the bottom, you must put inside first before you pump, and you must pump first before it comes out,.. ooppss.. i know what is in your mind.. hehe.. its just an example.. do first thing what is first in the line up..

4. muning - November 22, 2007

7. paul benjie torrecampo of BBA-MN 2-2D - November 23, 2007

Being a highly effective people is one of the best things that a man can ever experience. in the “habit #01″, i think that this is the most meaningful and a MUST for a person to practice, the so-called SELF-DECISION that, OURSELVES ALONE can ever do, and decide what our perception desires and thinks.

This part of the blog is a MUST for politicians, managers, and future leaders to READ and UNDERSTAND fully for them to arrive at their best…

as I did.

8. joana marie miguel of MN 2-2D - November 23, 2007

i like habit n0. 7

10. allan m. dela cruz, mn 2-2d - November 23, 2007

the seven habits are important but i think the last habit is the most indespensable. self renewal… what a nice word. it is even nicer if we put it into action but it is certainly hard to do. the person under this commitment should devote himself into sincerity. i think this habit must be first acquired before the all the other six.

11. Joyce S. Abiday - November 23, 2007

The #1 reminds me of adopting to the environment that im not familiar..just like in college life..it’s so different…but through the help of being friendly..i am now a survivor.. as a whole…no one is an island..we need other people to live, to share what we have and to fill the emptiness in our hearts..positive thinking and team work leads us to success..LET’S VOLT IN….

12. khareen maneja mn2-2d - November 23, 2007

habit 4 is very true! specialy dun sa mga tao n nawawalan n ng pag asa sa buhay!

33. clemente - November 24, 2007

….hmmm…once you’re an effective individual it follows being an effective leader…and once you’re now a leader you possess these two things— power and authority.,,.power to enforce rules and authority to command..with this matter i think this 7 habits of covey is the counterpart of robert greene’s 48 Laws of Power…counterpart in the sense that you no longer need to use other’s own capacity in order to be powerful ‘coz there is an alternative one, and that is— Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People…hehehe..

40. Diana Lee Chan - November 28, 2007

Covey’s message to the “7 Habits: is personal effectiveness and personal enhancement. The challenge to see the good and potential in oneself and the other person’s contribution makes us more efficient in all our effort. It brings about changes in our paradigm. These changes help us undrestand why we are who we are.

41. Alex Sevilla - November 28, 2007

About first things first…

I like to point out that today’s generation needs to make a paradigm. As part of the younger generation we are often asked to sort out things. To meet the deadlines, time frame, etc.. etc…

From this book, I learn that we should first classify our decisions from what is urgent and what is important.
Urgent is our short term goal. important is our long term goal. try to think of it.

Often times we make decisions that are not important in our life…And this is the sad reality of our life.

How to distinguished which is urgent and which is important? Read stephen Covey’s First Thinhs First—he he he

sir…

this book by stephen covey: 7 habits of highly effectv people is one of my favorite books. Its one one the highly recommended readings for someone who wishes to become succsful… I really liked the 7 stages articulated in the book especially the idea of being “INTERDEPENDENT” that people sould act and perform actions for the benefit of all that is involved… It espouses the idea that “WE” should act together in acheiving for a common end…
